mp3: Tan Dollar - Heaven

Few things make me happier than new Tan Dollar jams, so I’m thrilled they were nice enough to send me a copy of their newest gem, “Heaven,” the first in a series to be done with production credits from Wonder Wheel’s Paul Rosales.

Tan Dollar are touring like crazy soon, check the dates at the space and catch them if you can.

WGWB & Friends Volume Two

I’m am humbled, proud and a lil’ overwhelmed to present to you all the second installment in what I have dubbed the WGWB & Friends compilation series. Over the last three months this baby has been a labor of love for me and I couldn’t be much happier with the finished product. The following twenty songs - many of which are exclusive to this release, while most of the others have yet to grace the internet - combine to make one remarkable collection.

This compilation also marks my first venture into releasing music under my new “label” Wonder Beard Tapes.

I am now taking pre-orders for the physical copy. They are being done in a limited run of 100 on awesome transparent blue cassettes with custom white paint spray in beautiful hand numbered, full color j-cards. Tapes will be dubbed and ready to ship early May with an exact date to be announced really really soon. $5 plus some spare change for shipping and packaging and all that stuff. If you want to work out a trade or something else feel free to email me and we can wheel & deal as they say too.

If cassettes aren’t your thing, which is fine, and you’d still like to donate towards a physical copy, hit me up with an email and I’ll make you a cd-r in a hand folded case for the same price, unique artwork and all.

Any money that I make off this after production and shipping costs will go towards other WGWB & Friends and Wonder Beard releases - all of which will follow the free to download / mad cheap to own something limited and amazing model.

Without further adieu here is the track listing. All the thanks in the world go to those who contributed tracks to this beast, you are all beautiful, wonderful people.

1. CLOUD NOTHINGS - I AM ROOFTOP

From Cloud Nothings’ insanely amazing Bathetic split w/ Campfires, one of my favorite releases of the new year.

2. TAN DOLLAR - ASLEEP FOREVER

I find it nearly impossible to resist air drumming while listening to Tan Dollar. This is a new track that elicits the same exact response.

3. MEMORYHOUSE - RADIUM GIRLS (DEMO)

Evan and Denise dug into their archives to pull out this old demo for me. It might be re-worked for their upcoming full-length and follow up to their blissful EP The Years.

4. PHILLIP OSKAR AUGUSTINE - RIVER UNDERSIDE

“The song is about the new place I moved to (Jacksonville), which is where I’m originally from. I just didn’t wanna leave SC for a lot of reasons after having been there the last few years, blah blah blah you can hear. Anyway the neighborhood in Jax I live in, is called “Riverside”. It’s the “hip” place to live. The name of the song is ‘River Underside’”

5. HARD MIX - KING OF THE STARS

Noah makes some serious bangers. This is my favorite thing he has created to date, but I’m sure he’ll make a new favorite for me in the coming months. He’s that good.

6. DOM - LIVING IN AMERICA [NOT PART OF D/L]

Jesus and Burn Bridges have gotten their fair share of well deserved hype, but this jam, the opener to DOM’s earth rattling Sun Bronzed Greek Gods EP is easily the most infectious single they have in their arsenal. I like to envision this being the entrance theme for a modern day Hacksaw Jim Duggan. “Forget all the haters U-S-A is for lovers.”

NOTE: Burning Mill Records (home to DOM & Golden Girls) got in touch asking for this track to not be included in the free download. Little bit of miscommunication, but we hugged it out. As a result this track will be exclusively on the physical tape (as well as DOM’s upcoming EP of course). More incentive to grab a copy (of both), right?

7. GOBBLE GOBBLE - WHERE IS MY MIND? (PIXIES BLASPHEMY)

This track is all over the place in the best way possible. Cecil never disappoints, even when re-working a song I would have assumed impossible to due justice to,

8. MICHAEL PARALLAX - HEAD HAUNTED

One of a handful of new friends from the sunny confines of Florida. This is from one of his upcoming EPs.

9. EASYBOY - THINGS I SHOULDN’T KNOW ABOUT PEOPLE I DON’T LIKE

EASYBOY is Eric Farber, one half of Truman Peyote. This is a absolute unearthed gem that i’m ecstatic to share with everyone.

10. GIRLFRIENDS - CREEP STUFF (LIVE)

Not a particularly creepy song from my favorite Girlfriends.

11. EMILY REO - WITCH MTN

I can’t put into words how much I enjoy Emily Reo. Just listen and you’ll be as tongue tied as I am. This track may get a part two, I sure hope it does.

12. KITES SAIL HIGH - GATES ABOVE

Brand new and so dope, dope, dope.

13. QUILT - COMMODITY SPECTRE

More wonderful psych/haze from Boston’s Quilt. Off their upcoming album Agents Of Play.

14. THE LETTER BOX PROJECT - TEMPORARY HOME

One of Tyler’s more upbeat pop-inspired numbers. Another example of how his songs mature with age in the wide-open.

15. PHILIP SEYMOUR HOFFMAN - JAPANESE GUM ON MY MOCCASIN SOLE (HER SPACE HOLIDAY REJAM)

I used to listen to an old Her Space Holiday cassette while making long drives in my 93’ Chevy Lumina back in high school. Apparently, Noah had some similar connections with that album too. This is a re-working of one of my teenage favorites.

16. COP MAGNET - HUSTLIN DAZE

Cop Magnet = Pop Gold / Bonafied Hits.

17. GOLDEN GIRLS - DREAMS

From their hotly anticipated U L T I M A T E F R E E D O M EP.

18. HAUNTED HOUSES - DARK EMPTY ROOMS

Haunted Houses creates some of my favorite droned-out jams (get his Bathetic tape if there still are any left, it’s truly amazing). This new cut is another beauty.

19. FREE KISSES - MARRIED

Karen has one of the most beautiful voice on the planet. This new song from her is as delicate as it is haunting.

20. COMA CINEMA - STONED ALONE

An unreleased track that won’t be included on an upcoming album by the same name. If this wasn’t good enough to make the cut, I can only imagine how amazing the finished product will be. I can’t think of a better song to wrap the collection up.

Video: Tan Dollar - The Turning Point

New video of Tan Dollar’s “The Turning Point” off their album Your Body As A Temple. You can buy the album on CD from Life’s Blood. The video is a mash of live footage and open roads as they blur and break into one another. It’s pretty rad.

mp3: Tan Dollar - LC’s Choice

After posting Tan Dollar’s amazing self-titled track on the WGWB compilation, the Cali-based trio shot me over another track from their impressive Your Body As A Temple CD on LIFE’S BLOOD.

Washed out vocals and a flurry of percussion carry this number to really wonderful heights. Give it a listen, listen to the self-titled track on the comp, and then keep riding the breezy groove and buy the disc if you feel up for it.
