mp3: Cold Mountain Child - II) night’s taking
While on my internet hiatus, the most amazing thing happened, I started to receive bits of snail mail. The best piece to find its way to my oft-ignored mailbox would be Cold Mountain Child’s Stillness Singing with a personal note documenting a brief moment in time during a gray Michigan day from Daniel.
I first wrote about Cold Mountain Child in early August, and as just as I had predicted its been increasingly difficult to keep their album out of my stereo for very long. While I have never been very fond of compact discs, Stillness Singing sits nestled in a 16-page booklet full of lyrics, photos and art.
When I interviewed Phil Elverum last year (you can certainly hear a little Mount Eerie in the track above) he said that he liked releasing on vinyl because as a “thing maker” and that when he saw a CD he wanted to throw them in the trash. Stillness Singing is one of the best example of how a CD can be something worth holding onto.
